These terms apply when you book and pay for a tutoring session with Michael Hlinka. We show them before you pay, and a copy comes to you by email when you book. Our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy also apply.

Who you're dealing with

What you're buying

  • A live online session with Michael Hlinka, at the date and time you choose, lasting 1 hour.
  • It takes place on Zoom. Sessions are online only.
  • Bring whatever you want to work on: the CFA® Program (Levels I, II or III), the CSC®, or career support and planning. Michael doesn't prepare material in advance. He answers what you ask.
  • The price is per hour, not per person. You may bring people who are studying with you, for the same price. You share the meeting link with them yourself, and any split of the cost is between you.
  • Any signed-in account can book. Course access is free and isn't needed for tutoring.
  • Sessions aren't recorded unless everyone agrees at the start.

What you need: a computer, tablet or phone with a stable internet connection, a current web browser or the Zoom app, and a microphone and speakers or a headset. A camera is optional.

Price

All amounts in Canadian dollars. One hour costs CAD $300.00 plus 13% HST (CAD $39.00), CAD $339.00 in total.

The price on the review screen before you pay is the final price for the time you chose. We don't add any other charges. If your card is in another currency, your bank may charge its own exchange or foreign transaction fees.

Paying

  • You pay the full amount when you book, by card, through Stripe's secure checkout.
  • We hold your chosen time for a short while as you pay. If you leave checkout without paying, the time is released for someone else.
  • Your booking is confirmed only once the payment clears. Until then, nothing is booked and no meeting link exists.

When the session takes place

At the date and time you chose. We show it in Toronto time and in your own time zone, on the booking page and in every email. Sessions must be booked at least 48 hours ahead.

  • When your payment clears, your booking page shows the confirmed booking, and we email you a confirmation with a calendar invitation.
  • The meeting link appears on your booking page and is emailed to you no later than 48 hours before the start.
  • We never send the link before payment clears.
  • If you don't have the link 48 hours before the start, write to michael@michaelhlinka.com. If we can't get it to you in time, you choose a full refund or a new time.

Cancelling and rescheduling

The hours below are counted back from the scheduled start time. A cancellation or reschedule counts from the moment you press the button on your booking page, or the moment your email reaches michael@michaelhlinka.com.

If you cancel or reschedule

  • 48 hours or more before the start: cancel for a full refund.
  • 48 hours or more before the start: move the session to any other open time, at no charge.
  • Later than that: no refund, and the session can't be moved.
  • If you don't show up: no refund.
  • If you join late, the session still ends at the scheduled time.

If Michael cancels

If Michael cancels or moves the session, or can't hold it (for example because of illness, or a technical problem on his side), you choose: a full refund, or a new time at no charge. This applies at any time.

If the time was already taken

In the rare case that two people pay for the same time at once, the second payment is refunded in full automatically and we email you to pick another time.

Technical problems on your side

If you can't connect because of a problem with your own device or internet, the cancellation rules above still apply. Tell us anyway: Michael may, at his discretion, offer another time.

How refunds are paid

Refunds go back to the card you paid with, through Stripe. Your bank may take 5 to 10 business days to show it.

During the session

  • Michael may end a session early if a participant is abusive. In that case there's no refund.
  • Career support is general guidance. It isn't professional financial, legal, tax or immigration advice.
  • Tutoring can't guarantee an exam result or a job.

Your rights under Ontario consumer law

A tutoring booking is an internet agreement under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002.

  • Before you pay, we show you the information on this page and a review of your booking: the time in both time zones, the length, the itemized price and the total. You can correct anything, or decline, before you go to checkout.
  • We email you a copy of this agreement within 15 days of booking. In practice it arrives straight away.
  • If we didn't give you the required information before you paid, you may cancel within 7 days after you receive your copy.
  • If we didn't send you a copy within 15 days, you may cancel within 30 days after you booked.
  • If you cancel under the Act and we don't refund you within 15 days, and you paid by credit card, you may ask your card issuer to reverse the charge.

These rights are in addition to our own cancellation rules above.

Your copy of this agreement

The confirmation email is your copy. It includes your name and the date you booked; the session date and time, in Toronto time and your time zone, and its length; the topic you gave, if any; the price, tax, total and currency; the payment method and receipt number; our contact details; and these Tutoring Terms in full, with their version.
